𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐛𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐣𝐢𝐝 — 𝐀 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤

Known locally as Gol Masjid, Masjid-e-Tooba is one of Karachi’s most distinctive architectural landmarks. Located in DHA near Korangi Road, the mosque was designed by Pakistani architect Dr. Babar Hamid Chauhan, with construction beginning in 1966 and completing in 1969. 

Its defining feature is its enormous single dome, approximately 212 feet (64–72 metres, depending on the source’s measurement convention) across, resting on a low surrounding structure without central pillars. This creates a remarkably open prayer hall with space for around 5,000 worshippers. The mosque also features a single tall minaret and a design that carefully considers acoustics.

Over five decades later, Tooba Masjid remains more than a place of worship. Its simple geometry, monumental dome and serene surroundings have made it an enduring symbol of Karachi’s architectural identity.
